Bangalore: SAP, one of the world’s leading enterprise software companies, recently announced that two of its HANA- related analytic software that will be made available for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

HANA (High Performance Analytic Appliance) is a database technology that analyzes data in a computer’s memory instead of performing the analysis to the system’s slower drives. Chief Technology Officer Vishal Sikka said “Small and medium-sized companies need both a simplified IT landscape and the ability to process complex data in real time,” in a statement. “Almost 80 percent of the company’s customers are smaller companies, he said.

SAP’s Business One application will be a cost-effective, small-scale, and easy-to-use solution for small businesses that will need to analyze real-time data. Customers will be provided the “flexibility to create interactive reports and run ad-hoc analysis faster than before,” said Ketan Solanki, the consulting manager at Evolution Future Solutions (an Australia-based SAP channel partner). “Another major advantage is the access to relevant information in seconds with freestyle search, with the ability to navigate through various business objects from SAP Business One without having to move from screen to screen due to it all being included in the current cockpit,” he said.

SAP HANA, Edge edition, according to the company, is an “indirect offering compiled specifically for reselling in the midmarket. The software targets SAP customers in the midmarket — typically those running the SAP Business All-in-One solution.”

The big bet pivotal in launching SAP’s HANA-based Business One and Edge edition products for SMEs was that the crisis of managing unstructured Big Data will not only be restricted to large businesses, but spill over to small and medium firms as well. “Big Data is not only large volumes of data but also includes the variety and complexity of the data. Looking at content such as audio, video, text, documents, small enterprises have as much Big Data as large enterprises. Solutions for small enterprises must address the issues of Big Data.” said Donald Feinberg, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner.

SAP has targeted large companies with HANA up until now, according to a report from ZD Net. This move to target smaller businesses shows that the company is trying to push HANA into more enterprises and see it distributed more.
